How to Wash Bath Towels and Keep Them Soft

Keeping your towels soft starts with a simple routine: wash before first use, use gentle detergent, and tumble dry low. For Alusa Home towels, wash Bamboo and Waffle cold; wash Chevron and Organic warm. Skip bleach, fabric softeners, and dryer sheets.

You don’t need a cupboard full of special laundry products. A little room in the washer and the right settings go a long way.

Use the right temperature for your collection

Collection Wash Dry
Bamboo Cold Tumble dry low
Chevron Warm Tumble dry low
Organic Warm Tumble dry low
Waffle Cold Tumble dry low

Follow the sewn-in care label and wash with similar colors. Our no-bleach recommendation includes white towels.

Give new towels their first wash

Wash your new set before putting it into everyday use. This helps reduce loose lint and gets your towels ready for their first shower or bath.

A small amount of lint is normal with new zero-twist towels and usually decreases during the first two or three washes. If heavy shedding continues, let us help instead of trying a harsher wash.

Go easy on detergent and skip coatings

Use a gentle detergent and measure according to its directions for your load and washer. More detergent isn’t a shortcut to softer towels.

Fabric softeners and dryer sheets can leave a coating that reduces absorbency. Leave both out of your towel routine. Let the towel’s own softness do the work.

Leave room to move

Wash similarly colored towels together and avoid packing the machine tightly. A load with room to move is easier to wash and rinse properly. Keep exposed zippers, hooks, and rough fasteners away from your towels to help prevent snags.

If you spot a projecting loop, don’t pull it. Carefully trim the loose strand without cutting the surrounding fabric. Contact us if a seam is opening or the towel is unraveling.

Finish with low heat and a good drying spot

Tumble dry low and avoid overdrying. Make sure towels are fully dry before folding them into the cupboard. Between uses, spread each towel over a bar or rack so air can reach the fabric.
