A towel can feel wonderfully soft and still leave you feeling damp. If it seems to move water around instead of taking it up, start with the first wash and your laundry routine before giving up on it.
Softness and absorbency are different qualities. You deserve a towel that feels good and gives you a comfortable dry-off.
Wash a new towel before using it
We recommend washing every new Alusa Home set before its first use. Follow the collection’s care label: cold for Bamboo and Waffle, warm for Chevron and Organic, and low heat in the dryer.
Give the towel a normal wash with gentle detergent. A harsh treatment isn’t the place to start with a new set.
Leave out fabric softeners and dryer sheets
Both can coat towel fibers and reduce absorbency. If they’re part of your routine, skip them when you wash towels.
Use the detergent amount recommended for your washer and load. Leave enough room for the towels to move and rinse. Adding extra detergent or packing the machine tightly won’t help you get a better result.
Choose the texture you enjoy
Some people love a plush, cushioned towel. Others prefer a lighter texture. Neither preference needs explaining away. The towel should feel comfortable when you dry off, not just when you touch it in the cupboard.
Our Bamboo, Chevron, and Organic Collections offer plush comfort at 700 GSM. Waffle has an airy honeycomb weave at 450 GSM for a lighter feel. The difference is worth considering if you’ve always found thick towels a little too much.
Give it a fair everyday check
Try the towel after it has been washed according to its label and dried completely. Use it without introducing another softening product. That gives you a clear sense of the towel itself.
If the fabric has become stiff over time, look at our laundry checklist for stiff towels. If the problem is mustiness or slow drying between uses, check how the towel hangs and whether air can reach it.
